Hello ,

As 2021 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting again on the resilience and creativity of our global Collaborative community. Once again, we have faced together the challenge of an ongoing worldwide pandemic and the rapid changes it brought. This has meant very different challenges for members in different parts of the world, but we found ways to pull together and connect across distance, including at IACP’s first hybrid Forum!

In the midst of all this change, I am especially grateful for a group of community leaders who are looking to building a sustainable future for Collaborative Practice – the founding members of the IACP Legacy Society. Together, these visionaries have pledged over $600,000 towards an endowed fund that will carry our work far into the future. We thank them individually below, but I also wanted to personally add my appreciation. And it is not too late to join! Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like more information.

I am also excited to announce that March of 2022 will see the return of the IACP Institute. For many years, the Institute was held bi-annually in locations around the globe featuring some of the best trainers in the world. The purpose of the Institute has been two-fold: to bring opportunities for more in-depth learning, and to make this kind of training available to those who were unable to travel to North America for Forum. In 2022, we will be making the Institute even more accessible, by holding it online! This is part of IACP’s commitment to increasing the amount of high-quality virtual education that can help our members connect even when we can’t be together in person. Registration will open soon, and some classes have a limited enrollment, so keep an eye on your email for more information.

Many more opportunities are on the horizon as well. This issue of the Collaborative Connection is full of events that offer the chance to learn, to connect with your colleagues, and to promote Collaborative in your community. I encourage you to give one or more of them a try!

For experienced and active IACP Members who want to learn more about the Insight Approach to Conflict, beginning Monday, January 10, 2022, Jacinta Gallant, will lead an online learning group to take a deep dive into working with conflict over the course of 5 weekly Monday sessions. The learning group will involve reading and reflection before and in between sessions to deepen your skill and challenge you to apply the Insight Approach in your work and life!

What is the Insight Approach to conflict and how is it important to YOU? The Insight Approach helps us notice conflict behaviors without assuming what is behind them so that we can ask insightful questions to get at the heart of the matter. Working with the "Insight Approach" to conflict, we will learn to notice and effectively respond to conflict behaviors. We will learn how and when to ask questions to unearth the threats that escalate and sustain conflict, without provoking it, and how to use what is learned to promote an authentic shift from conflict to collaboration, without forcing or faking it.

As a student of Dr. Cheryl Picard, the founder of Insight Mediation, Jacinta has spent the past five years challenging her own thinking about conflict and applying Insight skills and approaches to her collaborative and mediation practice by continuing to study and apply the principles and practices of Insight. IACP understands the issues Practice Groups, professional associations, and committed individuals face trying to affordably grow Collaborative Practice locally and globally. Which is why we are pleased to present our Introductory Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice Training to you via a virtual learning environment! Not only is this online training accessible, participants will also benefit from learning alongside world-class trainers and fellow attendees from around the world!

This online introductory Collaborative training will launch someone's career as a Collaborative professional and meets the IACP Minimum Standards for an Introductory Interdisciplinary training. Whether you're looking for your first Collaborative Practice Training, would benefit from a refresher training in which both experienced and new members participate together, or know of someone who would, we encourage you to register. This course will teach you how to establish and grow your own in-person, hybrid, or online Collaborative Practice through the expertise and advice of expert Collaborative Trainers, Woody Mosten and Susan Guthrie, and their cohort of Guest Presenters, leading industry professionals Kevin Scudder, Anne Lucas, Robert Merlin, Alex Weinberger, Ronald Ousky, and Adam Cordover, as they provide their tips on how to build your practice based on their own success.

You will learn how to strategically make more money than you spend, as you build your practice through the mentorship of leading Collaborative professionals and cutting-edge educational materials. Using excerpts of Woody Mosten’s Building a Successful Collaborative Practice, trainers will help you meaningfully engage with its content using exclusive materials, such as original handouts and a full Dropbox of materials to promote your learning throughout the course and to utilize as you develop your practice afterward.

Get Continuing Education Credits From Mosten Guthrie Academy! Mosten Guthrie Academy is approved by the State Bar of California to offer 12 hours of participatory MCLE credit for this course, including 12 hours of family law specialization credit, for attorneys licensed in California. Mosten Guthrie Academy is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs and this course meets the qualifications for 12 hours of continuing education credit for those groups as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
