Profession(s)

Lawyer

Divorce is a life experience. Collaborative Divorce goes beyond the legal process and treats it as such. This work is 'peacemaking'.

Bart's personal journey to ‘peacemaker' began with his experience as a family law litigator. The highly competitive, adversarial nature of Litigation meant that even a "win" in court had negative impacts on families, especially on children. Bart's resolution was to find a better way to help families journey through divorce.

• As a professional, Bart has diligently and extensively studied and trained in the legal processes of litigation, mediation and collaboration. Bart is teaching these skills at Western State College of Law and co-founded the Collaborative Divorce Education Institute to teach other professionals.
• As a human being, Bart recognizes that the vast majority of people want to be fair and move away from conflict with dignity and respect to find peace.
• As a peacemaker, coming to the practice of Collaborative law is coming home.

Bart graduated from Western State University College of Law and was admitted to the California Bar in 1988. Bart has actively practiced Collaborative Law since February 2004 and Mediation since 1998.
