Uniform Collaborative Law Act (UCLA)
The Uniform Law Commission created the Uniform Collaborative Law Rules and Uniform Collaborative Law Act in 2010. This act may be enacted by legislation, court rule or a combination of the two.
UCLA includes explicit informed consent requirements for parties to enter into the Collaborative process with an understanding of the requirements of participation. The process is intended to promote full and open disclosure. Information that is disclosed in a Collaborative process, which is not otherwise discoverable, is privileged against use in any unlikely but possible subsequent litigation.
As of July 2025, 28 jurisdictions in the United States had passed the UCLA.
If you are interested in having the UCLA enacted in your state, you can find resources in the Enactment Kit provided by the Uniform Law Commission.
More information on the UCLA can be found on the Uniform Law Commission's website.
