I’ve practiced law in Pinellas County, FL for 37 years and have always tried to achieve my client’s goals efficiently and amicably. I’ve thought attorneys should try to work together to bring their clients to a reasonable compromise in litigation and be cooperative, non-adversarial and professional in that process; however, it has become more difficult to do so over the years. The time, expense, and emotional toll of all litigation has increased substantially.
However, the Collaborative Process is an entirely different mindset that truly enables the clients, assisted by their respective attorneys and other involved neutral professionals, to reach their own decisions regarding all of the issues affecting their family. It also enables the different professionals to do what they do best so clients receive the most efficient and effective services. The costs of obtaining a divorce through the collaborative process are similar to the expense you would expect to incur for a “regular” divorce. In marriages with children, the Collaborative Process is a much better process than litigation. The client will be co-parenting forever and this process is designed to assist and equip them to do so for the benefit of the entire family.
I urge you to investigate attorneys who are collaboratively trained to assist you by advising you of all your options and the pros and cons of each.
