Having compassionate and wise guidance to navigate the difficult emotional terrain of divorce is essential, especially when there are children involved. Emotions are often heightened and communication can be difficult, especially when there’s a long history of conflict in the relationship. I provide skillful support in the following areas: 1. how to talk to your children about separation and divorce in ways that are developmentally appropriate and sensitive. 2. How to work through the transition from being married to separated or divorced in a way that is as gentle as possible for your children. 3. How to communicate as coparents after the divorce. 4. How to resolve problems and disagreements creatively and collaboratively, in ways that sidestep power struggles. 5. How to create new routines and rituals as a family, post-divorce, to give children a sense of safety and stability. Divorce doesn’t have to damage children emotionally and psychologically. When parents get the support they need to work together, children are better able to cope with their parents’ divorce.
