Executive Director

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) is an international community of legal, mental health, financial and other aligned professionals who are leaders and change agents, working to help families resolve disputes while staying out of court. Our mission is to transform the way families resolve conflict by building a global community of Collaborative Practice and consensual dispute resolution professionals.

IACP provides education and resources to its nearly 3,000 members in 26 countries through its publications, training programs, events, website, social media and other channels. In parallel, as a sophisticated international social change organization, IACP works globally to increase awareness about Collaborative Practice among the public as it seeks to transform the culture of family conflict resolution.

IACP is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a $1.0 million budget. We operate through a virtual office with no physical headquarters, with 6 staff located in 3 states across the U.S. To learn more about IACP, visit www.collaborativepractice.com.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Executive Director (ED) of IACP will lead a well-established membership organization with thoughtful and well-functioning culture and practices for collaborating remotely across all levels of the organization (staff and board). This is a full-time, remote position (U.S. only) with a flexible schedule, and reports to the Board of Directors. Travel is expected approximately6-10 times per year, nationally and internationally, when conditions are safe to do so.

IACP’s next ED steps into an organization that is financially and operationally stable, with a highly involved board, a dedicated staff, and a devoted constituency. The organization has been in a phase of internal rebuilding, and is now poised for a more outward, expansive focus.

In constant collaboration with a small staff, relatively large board, and robust committee structure of about a dozen working committees, the Executive Director is an expert at hearing all perspectives, planning collaboratively, managing expectations, setting boundaries, and reinforcing priorities. With an expert and highly engaged volunteer workforce supported by committed paid staff, IACP accomplishes an annual Educational and Networking Forum with 400+ attendees, a year-long Leadership Academy in 2021-2022, and regular monthly webinars, quarterly online seminars, and gatherings throughout the year. The Executive Director is a highly responsive ongoing facilitator of communication, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities for all involved.

With a firm focus on growing membership, the new ED will work internationally to emphasize the benefits of IACP to current Collaborative Practice practitioners, while promoting these practices to new professionals who may be attracted to the field. The Executive Director will bring well-honed communications and marketing skills to build capacity within the organization to employ new and traditional media to communicate the value of Collaborative Practice and of IACP. Meanwhile, with the overall goal of transforming the culture of family conflict resolution, IACP seeks to promote a greater awareness among the general public, understanding the positive impact on children and families this approach can have during a family’s most difficult times. As the leader and public face of the organization, the ED need not be a subject matter expert on Collaborative Practice, but is expected to be a sophisticated, energetic, and informed champion of the approach and of IACP’s offerings.

While working to expand IACP’s reach into more countries and cultures, the ED will have strong multicultural competency, understanding the challenges of representing an organization and a theory of social change initially founded in the North American context. The Executive Director is a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, both philosophically and practically, leading and supporting work across time zones, languages, and cultures. The new ED will have the opportunity to shape offerings for staff, board, and membership to learn, develop, and implement best practices to ensure participants across the globe are engaged and feel belonging.

Finally, as the Executive Director has day-to-day responsibility for IACP’s financial sustainability and growth, the new ED will bring a collaborative and distributed approach to fundraising. This role has primary responsibility for cultivating new and existing donors, as well as identifying and generating new sources of funding. The ED also trains and equips board members to actively participate in fundraising, with particular support to the Fundraising Committee to implement the annual campaign.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The next Executive Director of IACP is dynamic, relational, and thrives in an external-facing role while also being comfortable as the prime facilitator of internal conversations. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, transparent, and hands-on leader with an affinity for working with and through distributed teams to execute on priorities in alignment with shared values.

Success in this role requires significant management experience implementing organizational growth within a social change organization. Nonprofit management experience is a strong plus, but not required. Candidates should have strong financial management experience, with the ability to drive a membership organization’s revenue while managing expenses. Leading with insight and positivity, the ideal candidate employs a balance of humility and confidence, particularly in times of organizational change. Essential to the role is the ability to collaborate effectively with, and facilitate inclusive teamwork among, highly educated professionals who are experts in their field. Fundraising skills include proven success cultivating individual gifts and sponsorships, as well as the ability to train and mentor board members to lead fundraising activities. Highly valuable will be the ability to identify and pursue other aligned funding opportunities.

Communications experience reflects a broad skillset building the voice and reach of a social change organization, employing a variety of tools and methods to promote the organization and its values to targeted audiences.

Highly valued is experience working in multicultural and international settings, along with a track record of building and sustaining an organization that reflects principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. Proficiency in one or more languages other than English is a strong plus.

A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is preferred. An advanced degree may be advantageous.  Trained Collaborative Professionals are encouraged to apply.
