This Team Training course is open to Attorneys, Financial Professionals, and Mental Health Professionals. It meets the training standards established by the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and you will be prepared to begin practicing in this model. For those already Collaboratively trained, it will develop and enhance your skills as a Collaborative divorce professional and allow you to grow an effective Collaborative practice. This training is designed to improve the skills of practicing Collaborative professionals while building a thorough foundation for professionals new to the model. While the objective of this training is to assist professionals in developing their skills as Collaborative practitioners, you will be able to use the tools provided in many other professional settings.

By the end of this training, you will be able to:
• Grasp the fundamentals of Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice.
• Advance your skills in interest-based negotiation.
• Experience how Collaborative practice integrates the roles and functions of all team members.
• Examine the legal, financial, and emotional aspects of Collaborative divorce.
• Practice results-oriented techniques for helping your clients reach successful resolutions to their disputes.
• Identify and implement strategies for success with high-conflict clients and how to navigate challenging cases.
• Develop a Collaborative Divorce Team and how to work effectively and efficiently with other disciplines.
• Assess and advance skills in enrolling clients and spouses in the Collaborative model and keeping them engaged.

Location: 

Live, virtual event spanning five (5) three-hour sessions.

Trainers: 

Jenny A. Kuszyk MA, Ed. S. is a licensed professional counselor who has worked with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples for over twenty years. She is the owner and managing operator of Newman Avenue Associates, a group counseling practice in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Jenny has worked as a collaborative coach and child specialist for ten years and has been an active member of the Collaborative Professionals of the Shenandoah Valley, the Virginia Collaborative Professionals and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Jenny was recently appointed as a member of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute faculty. Jenny is certified in trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy and has had extensive training with Dr. Robert Marvin of The Ainsworth Attachment Clinic and the Circle of Security. Jenny has provided presentations for students, counselors in training and professional mental health workers on testifying in court. Jenny is an expert witness providing testimony in cases involving custody in the Shenandoah Valley. She has also provided consultation to Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judges, Commonwealth attorneys, private attorneys, and the local Department of Social Services concerning complex, chronic custody cases. Jenny is committed to advocating for children and families in her professional capacity and believes in the collaborative process for navigating divorce and custody issues.

Gigi Robson, CPA, CDFA, is the owner of Respond, LLC, a financial firm focused solely on assisting families navigate divorce. Gigi has been a practicing CPA for over 30 years. She received her Masters of Dispute Resolution degree from Pepperdine University and her Masters of Accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University. Gigi is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, working as a financial neutral in both the Collaborative and mediation divorce processes. Gigi enjoys training new Collaborative professionals as a faculty member of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute (CPTI). Gigi is a member of multiple conflict resolution organizations including the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), Virginia Collaborative Professionals (VaCP), her local Collaborative practice group, Collaborative Professionals of Richmond (CPR), and the Association of Conflict Resolution (ACR). Gigi formerly served as the Treasurer for ACR and on the ACR strategic planning task force. Gigi is an active member of the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts as well as a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Virginia Society of CPAs.

Paul R. Smollar, JD, practices in both the District of Columbia and Virginia and is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Fairfax County Bar, the Virginia Bar, and the Family Law Sections of the District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia Bar. He has served as a member of the Virginia State Bar Legislative Committee and was the Co-Chair of the ADR-Case Evaluator of the Family Law Action Group. He presently serves as an Alternative Dispute Facilitator for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia's Alternate Dispute Resolution ("ADR") program. He serves as a faculty member of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute. He is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and has served on several of their task force committees. He has previously served on the Council for the Virginia Collaborative Professionals. He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1990, was President of the DC Chapter of the AAML during 1997 and 1998. Paul has been recognized in the February 2009 issue of the Washingtonian as one of the top 25 divorce lawyers in the metropolitan DC area and in the publication of the Washington, DC, Super Lawyers for 2008 through 2014 as one of the top 100 lawyers in the metropolitan D.C. area and for 2012-2014 as one of the top 10 lawyers in the metropolitan D.C. area. Paul has also named in the Best Lawyers in America for years and was selected as the Collaborative Lawyer of the year by the publication for 2012 and 2017. He also acts as a mentor for the DC Bar Advice and Referral Clinic and serves as a volunteer referral source for the Vienna Women's Center.

P. Marshall Yoder, JD is of counsel with Wharton, Aldhizer and Weaver, PLC in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He joined the firm in 2005 after practicing for fifteen years with Poyner & Spruill, LLP in Charlotte, North Carolina where he served as co-chair of that firm’s litigation department. Marshall’s current practice includes various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including collaborative practice, mediation and arbitration as well as family law, business and estate planning. In addition to his J.D., Marshall also has a Masters degree in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University. He has previously presented at conferences nationwide on various forms of ADR, Restorative Justice, and new ways of lawyers serving clients. He is a member of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute where he assists in training other professionals in collaborative practice, mediation and negotiations. Marshall has served as the chair of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals and has worked on a number of committees with the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Marshall has been selected to the Virginia Legal Elite in the area of alternative dispute resolution for the past twelve years and has also been selected as a member of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Collaborative Practice. Marshall has served as an Assistant Affiliated Professor at Eastern Mennonite University where he taught governance and leadership in the MBA program, and business law and a pre-law course in the undergraduate program. Marshall has also co-taught a course at the Summer Peacebuilding Institute at EMU for conflict transformation practitioners in designing trainings that focus on adult learning styles.
