Best Practices in Collaborative Law - 2021

On Friday morning, April 30, 2021, King County Collaborative Law (Seattle, Washington; USA) will be presenting its First Best Practices Workshop. This Workshop will consist of three separate panels composed of the most experienced Mental Health Professionals, Attorneys and Financial Specialists, who have been practicing Collaborative Law from its introduction to the Pacific Northwest 20 years ago. Each panel will be one hour in length, during which each presenter will address these questions:

What changes have you witnessed in the development of Collaborative Practice during your years of involvement?

What are current Best Practices for your professional role?

What Best Practices would you request/recommend for the other professional roles?

Each panel will end with a 15-20 minute Q&A section.

This Workshop is APPROVED for three hours professional continuing education for therapists and approval is pending for attorney MCLE credit in Washington State

Our Panelists

Attorneys

Rachel Felbeck: Rachel is generally credited with bringing Collaborative Practice to Washington State. She was the first President of King County Collaborative Law and is still active in the collaborative community, currently serving, again, on the KCCL Board.

Loretta Story: Loretta has more than 15 years experience in the collaborative law arena. She has been both President of CPW and KCCL and is a long –time mentor and speaker on the topic.

Roy Martin: Roy brought collaborative practice to Bellingham after practicing and being an integral part of the collaborative law community in Arizona. He is an “ambassador” of collaborative practice to the conventional family law litigation community as an active member of DRAW and frequent writer on various topics of import to collaborative lawyers.

Kevin Scudder; Kevin is a current Board Member of IACP and an enthusiastic, and deep, student of collaborative practice. He is a frequent trainer and presenter and has worked with, among others, Woody Mosten in bringing novel and best practices to collaborative practitioners nation-wide.

Mental Health Professionals

Anne Lucas: Anne was one of the first mental health professionals to be trained in collaborative practice and in the ensuing years, she has worn almost every hat imaginable. She is currently President of IACP and has also led CPW and KCCL. Anne is a much sought-after speaker and trainer in collaborative practice.

Wendy Rawlings: Wendy has been a leader in the Pierce County collaborative community for many years and has served as President of CPW. She was an early member of KCCL and has many years experience as a child specialist and coach.

Little: has been a child specialist in the King County collaborative community for many years. She is a seasoned presenter, as well, having participated a number of times in the King County Bar Association’s Psychology of Divorce program. She is co-author of The Co-Parenting Handbook. is currently on the Board of KCCL.

Jeff Shushan: Jeff joined KCCL in 2006, as a Collaborative Divorce Coach and he continues to enjoy working with Collaborative Teams as well as attending to his Couples, Family & Trauma Therapy practice. Jeff served on the Board of KCCL for two terms, has presented about Legacy Based Coaching at the IACP Conference, as well as being a frequent presenter on a variety of innovative Coaching related topics, at the Collaborative Professionals of Washington State Conferences.

Financial Specialists

Smalldon: is one of the original collaborative practitioners in the Pacific Northwest. Hailing from Portland, Donna was perhaps the first professional to be trained and to begin practicing here. She is a frequent presenter and has been a foundational member of the Oregon/Southern Washington collaborative community.

Sandy Voit: Sandy has the distinction of being the only financial specialist with a counseling degree. A seasoned presenter on a variety of financial topics, Sandy has a broad perspective on collaborative practice, having practiced in a number of different collaborative communities for many years.

Kelly Deis: Kelly has a broad and lengthy background as a financial consultant and is a solid part of the King County collaborative community. While grounded and experienced in collaborative practice, Kelly is a relative spring chicken in comparison to the other presenters. This provides her with a valuable perspective on the challenges faced by those entering their collaborative community.

Maryann Nelson: Maryann began her Collaborative Practice in 2018 informed by 35 years as banker specializing in start ups, small businesses and owners. Her finesse with “money conversations” is a dynamic part of any team and helpful as she fulfils her role as Treasurer of KCCL.
