Dear Members, I want to share with you news of an exciting new practice group called the Hispano Collaborative Professionals. Most practice groups are defined by their geographic location but this one is based on its members being fluent in Spanish. There are no geographic limits. If you are a Hispanic collaborative professional, you are welcome to join. Their motto on their website is “Peace. For Hispanos. By Hispanos.” What a great idea. Congratulations to Betsy Vázquez who is the founder and president of HCP. If we want to diversify our collaborative community and serve a more diverse clientele, we need to make welcoming spaces. This practice group is an excellent example of how we can make such spaces. If we want Collaborative Practice to reach the tipping point that it becomes the mainstream way of resolving conflict, we need to grow our membership. Creating safe and welcoming spaces is key. I encourage others to follow their example. I would love to hear other initiatives to create welcoming safe spaces that will encourage those who have not traditionally been members of the collaborative community to join us in our peacemaking work. What are you doing to grow membership in your community? Thank you so much for your efforts to bring peace to the world, one family at a time. In Community, Brian Galbraith IACP Board President |
