I am pleased to welcome you all to the 21st IACP Annual Networking and Education Forum! In this year of pandemic, we have all had to adapt and change quickly to new circumstances, and the Forum – held online for the first time – is no exception. Our global Collaborative community is creative and flexible, however, as we work together to help families through the crisis.
This year’s theme is “The Door is Open!” and it turns out to be a particularly apt one as going virtual makes the Forum so much more accessible. We expect this to be the biggest Forum ever, as members around the world can join from the comfort of their own homes. What is normally a 4-day agenda is now spread over 10 days. This extended schedule allows us to stretch our offerings over many time zones, so no matter where you live there will be a range of options during waking hours. (All workshops are listed in California time; try www.worldtimebuddy.com to convert to your time zone.)
I want to invite you to stretch as well. Stretch your comfort zone with technology and with new ideas. Stretch your muscles with our online yoga breaks. And stretch your international horizons by participating in events outside your usual working hours. You’ll be home, so consider joining a workshop or event with your early morning coffee, or bring a nightcap and log in for sunrise on the other side of the globe. Whenever you join, you’ll have a chance to meet and learn from colleagues on six continents. If you do have to miss anything, though, those who register in advance for Forum will have access to recordings of all 30+ workshops for a full year.
Our Pre-Forum Institutes and workshops are always a draw, featuring some of the most well-known trainers in the field as well as exciting new voices. But Forum attendees are also enthusiastic about the opportunities for networking, socializing, and pure fun at this unique event. Mark your calendar to join us over the weekend for engaging plenary sessions, special gatherings, dine-arounds, and our Saturday party. I promise, it will be like nothing you’ve experienced before.
I wish each of you an engaging and inspiring Forum experience. May you find new connections and new ideas for practice as we continue to evolve for a changing world. The Door is Open!
Anne Tamar-Mattis, J.D.
