Harriet K Breslow, MSW
(Mental Health Professional/Mediator)
I have been a social worker for 34 years. I have worked with couples, families, and individuals in a private practice . Previously, I worked at the Frost School and Counseling Center. I have taught therapy techniques all over the Washington, D.C. metro area for hospital staffs, school counselors, therapists, and social work schools.
My mission is to help my clients focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses,so that they can maximize their options for achieving their goals, for themselves and in their relationship with others. My belief is that people already have the ability to solve their own problems, and what I do best is to help people tap into their own resources to find the answers they are seeking. My therapy over the years has been based on a short-term solution-focused model which helps clients solve their problems in a fraction of the time that most therapy models take. The techniques used in this model lend themselves towards helping clients in the collaborative process reach agreement more easily and respectfully. It is very exciting to be a part of a new way for couples to resolve their differences that will help them separate with dignity.

| General Comments |
| As I have been in practice for over 34 years, I have seen the trauma caused to both couples and their children when a divorce has been achieved by an angry litigation process. It is wonderful to know that there is now a respectful alternative to litigation which allows each person to maintain his or her own self-respect as well as give respect to the other party. Collaborative divorce also allows the couple to make their own decisions about their future, rather than depending upon a judge who may only see them for a brief time. |
