Elliot J Schwartz, LCSW (Mental Health Professional)
I strongly belief in the values that collaborative divorce promotes in protecting the integrity and self-determination of individuals. In my experience, collaborative divorce really helps to support and consider each persons needs going through the divorce process as it relates to emotions, finances, children, and planning for life after divorce.

  • General Comments
I became involved in collaborative divorce as a way to help 'cushion the blow' that adults and children effected by the divorce process typically have to go through involving painful and often destructive feelings. I feel that the court process tends to promote a genuine lack of communication and fear among people going through divorce. As a therapist, I like how collaborative takes into consideration everyones thoughts and feelings, but at the same time encourages a moving forward from a 'stuck' state to a more flexible place in which couples can negotiate with one another and really consider the needs of their children.
