| General Comments |
After over two decades of litigating and settling literally hundreds of contested divorce and domestic relations cases, Dan underwent the 'paradigm shift' starting in 2004 and is now an enlightened and enthusiastic proponent of Collaborative Practice. Whether parents are at odds over child-rearing issues, marital partners disagree about asset distributions, or support of separate households is at impasse, Collaborative Law provides the backbone for comprehensive, workable, and balanced agreements. As a charter Board member of the only Syracuse-area collaborative organization and an experienced matrimonial lawyer, Dan suggests collaboration as often the best settlement structure to create life-long resolutions for divorcing and separating families.
While litigation options may remain viable for select clients in very unusual circumstances, Dan and his staff are dedicated to improving family life for the next generation. Collaboration is becoming the preferred method in most instances of domestic conflict for couples who are motivated to avoid adversarial court-imposed results, resolve their differences privately and with dignity, and maintain control over their joint determinations for the future.
Dan was formerly a name partner in the recognized labor relations office of Boyle, Wittenburg & Cantone. As a popular CLE presenter, Cantone lectures regionally and nationally on family law and paralegal education topics. Dan has also been an Adjunct Professor of undergraduate Legal Studies at Syracuse University continuously since 1985 and teaches both introductory and upper-level paraprofessional courses.
Among his civic activities are service on the Board of a not-for-profit chartered school, volunteer chair of fine arts events, and varied participation in religious and community functions through the Cathedral of the Syracuse Diocese. Dan's 30-year marriage to his high school sweetheart and their mutual commitment to sharing the joy of raising three children into young adulthood are his most cherished and proud accomplishments. |
